The IDEAS Van is a mobile fully equipped ophthalmology and optometry specialist treatment centre, with state-of-the-art diagnostic tools.
The IDEAS Van travels to regional hubs around Queensland which allows remote communities to regularly access the Van’s facilities.
Each participating Aboriginal Medical Service is provided with a non-mydriatic camera to facilitate a comprehensive pre-screening program to identify at risk clients. Patients are managed through appropriate referral pathways to receive treatment on the purpose built, fully equipped, and specially designed ophthalmic trailer (IDEAS Van). The screening program ensures that all Indigenous diabetes patients, and those 40 years or over have an annual retinal scan.
